Monrovia Canyon Nature Center Mushroom Walk
Come see my first-ever fungi exhibition and join me for my first mushroom walk there! 🍄🟫 The Mushrooms of the San Gabriel Mountains ⛰️
🍄🟫 Monrovia Canyon Park is an excellent place to go mushrooming, as the season is in full mushroom right now. We will start with an exhibition tour at the nature center and then go for a guided walk in the park to meet some mushrooms.
The exhibition features my mushroom and lichen collections as well as photos I took for my book, including outtakes that didn’t make it into the book! And pick up a pre-order postcard (includes a discount code!) featuring Brooke Sauer’s cyanotypes and Vanessa Machuca’s illustrations.

I can’t wait for you to see the hidden details in these photo-stacked macro photographs with these large prints. There are some fun surprises and photobombing tiny critters (springtails).

Our Third Anniversary Celebration – A Clay Sculpture Making Workshop!

Exploring the Mycoverse came into existence three years ago amidst a challenging time for all of us during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when community was scarce. 80+ events later, reaching a community now over 1,000 myconauts, we want to celebrate and create a space for us to reflect on how the Mycoverse has inspired us.
Thanks to the wonderful generosity of fellow myconaut Alice Zhang, she has volunteered to help teach us how to make mini-fungi sculptures out of clay that participants can take home after firing and painting. Alice has generously donated a significant amount of clay for us to donation of clay for us to use, as well as a considerable amount of time to dry and fire the clay sculptures.
This will be a two-part series:
The first part will be centered on creating mini-fungi sculptures together out of clay.
The second part will be focused on painting our sculptures together (August 26th, Eventbrite TBA)

Mycologist, educator, and community organizer Aaron Tupac (they/them) invites you to explore the wondrous world of fungi in this Second Thursday Garden Talk.
In addition to the essential roles that fungi play in ecosystems, Tupac has discovered that these fascinating organisms have much to teach us about mindfulness, interconnection, and relationships. They will share what they’ve learned about how to love mushrooms, mushrooms found in LA, and how to contribute to the science of fungi. They will also discuss becoming a mycologist, queerness in biology, and the ways that fungi appreciation fosters community and connection. A plant sale follows the talk in the Plant Sale Nursery.
